Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR COMPETITION
1.     Consider that you are a CEO of a public/private sector bank. Assume that your bank is looking for inorganic growth opportunities through merger / acquisition of another bank. Therefore you need to analyze and identify a target bank (from the private sector or public sector) to be consolidated with yours.
2.     Prepare a proposal to be presented before the Board of Directors of your bank for consideration. Your proposal should include: objectives of the proposed merger / acquisition, basis of selecting the target bank, valuation of the target bank, proposed consideration and manner of payment of consideration, estimated post merger combined balance sheet and calculation of benefits to your bank / synergy expected out of the proposed transaction.
3.     The proposal therefore should pertain only to a prospective merger / acquisition possibilities in the banking industry and hence no past events are to be considered.
4.     The information of both the banks must be available in public domain.
5.     In case some data is not readily available, you can make valid assumptions to make your point.
6.     The proposal must include company analysis, industry analysis, macro-economic factors, the macro impact of the deal and the strategy / plan.
7.     You need to fully justify the proposal by giving explanations to your Merger & Acquisition motives.
8.     You have to consider the following parameters:
·        Your proposal must include the latest available standalone Balance sheets of both the banks.
·        You have to prepare a projected consolidated balance sheet of the combined entity.
·        Thereafter, you need to work out the projected balance sheet for next three years for these two banks separately, had they not been merged.
·        Also, prepare projected balance sheet of the merged entity for these three years.
·        And thereby show synergy of operations of combined entity.
9.     You are expected to submit the proposal report as stated above with the working, assumptions and conclusion along with the data.


RULES FOR COMPETITION
1.     Competition is open only for Second (II) / Final Year Finance students of Management Institutes under the full – time Program.
2.     A team will comprise of three (3) members only and they must be from the same institute.
3.     Maximum 3 teams can participate from the same institute. A student can neither be a part of more than one team, nor can one team submit more than one report.
4.     Case / Report should not exceed 30 pages – single side (plus 1 Cover Page).
[A4 size paper; Font Style: Times New Roman; Font Size: 12; Justified; 1.5 Line Spacing; Ensure that the pages are serially numbered].
5.     To maintain the anonymity of the participants as well as the institute in the screening process, the name or other details of the team members or the Institute shall be mentioned on the cover page only. Also ensure that any such details are not revealed on any other page. In case such identity is revealed on any page, the entry will be disqualified.
6.     A soft copy of the Case/Report, has to be mailed on mulyankan.nldalmia@gmail.com latest by September 4, 2010 by 6.00 p.m. The printed/hard copy of the case accompanying the Registration Form and photocopy of Institute’s ID Card should also reach the Institute by September 4, 2010 by 6.00 p.m. N.L. Dalmia Institute will not be responsible for any postal/courier delay.
7.     The report should bear a rubber stamp of the institute only on the cover page of the report. Also enclose photo copies of identity cards of each participating team member along with the report.
8.     A panel of independent Judges will do preliminary evaluation and TOP FIVE (5) teams will be selected for Final presentation. Selected teams will be intimated by 25th September 2010. Final presentation will have to be made with the help of power point slides on 8th October 2010 at our Institute’s Auditorium.
9.     A code number will be allotted to each team, at the time of case submission.
10.            The final presentation shall not be more than 20 minutes:
- At end of 15 minutes a warning bell shall be given
- At end of 20 minutes the final bell shall be given, indicating the participants to terminate their presentations at that moment itself.
      This shall be followed by a 10 minutes Question & Answer session by the panel.
11.            The final presentation will be judged by independent, eminent professionals. Identity of the teams will not be revealed to the judges.
12.            Violation of any of the above rules will lead to an immediate disqualification of the team, without any further discussion.
13.            The decision of the judges and/or N.L. Dalmia Institute shall be final.

NOTE: Accommodation facility will be provided to short listed teams coming from outstation cities on the date of the competition.
